<i>In vitro</i> evaluation of sugar digestibility in molasses

Beet and cane molasses mainly contain mono- di-, tri-saccharides, composed by hexoses, as well pentoses in traces. However, rationing software consider sugars only one entity, with a rate of digestion ∼20% h−1. The aim this initial study was to investigate evaluate the vitro dynamics rates sugar fraction molasses. Three beet three were randomly selected from variety samples collected world-wide digested via rumen fermentation, at 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 24 h. Samples then analysed specific enzymatic kit quantify residual sucrose, glucose, fructose, raffinose, galactose, arabinose. Complete disappearance sucrose happened within 3 hours incubation. Glucose fructose completely 4-6 h, showing variability among samples. Even if not so representative, galactose showed similar trend (97% 3-4 h). Raffinose quite slower molasses, while it 1 h Arabinose, pentose, never reached complete digestion, its fermentation dynamic different compared other sugars. Calculated for glucose most representative higher than 50% h−1 both beet. Obtained results that may vary, are rapidly fermented microbes.
